Comment on the job position of physicist

Requirements


  • ideally a practitioner in at least one form of the energy modelling, such as IES
  • ideally experienced building physicist or design mechanical engineer with experience in the private sector and developing zero carbon solutions
  • must be familiar with the various energy simulation tolls and standards related to buildings that are current and those that will shortly be introduced
  • expert knowledge of radiation measurement physics
  • demonstrate the ability to creatively apply scientific and mathematical principles to solve challenging problems
  • knowledge of basic radiation measurement physics
  • strong scientific computing skills
  • experience of technically leading projects on nuclear sites
  • comfort working on customer sites in the UK or internationally
  • experience of leading in-situ characterisation projects or waste assay systems
  • familiarity with specialist radiation detector electronics
  • basic practical technical skills, such as assembling a mount on site for a radiation detector
  • ability to attain SC clearance
  • building Physics / CIBSE / IES VE / BREEAM / LEED / Sustainability / Low Carbon / Sustainable Engineering / Architect / Engineer
  • phD or equivalent experience in Physics, Engineering or other applied numerate discipline
  • experience in undertaking scientific research in either a post-graduate or industrial context
  • commercial Finite Element Analysis codes such as Abaqus, Ansys, LS-Dyna
  • linux/HPC computer environments
  • shock physics
  • use/implementation of equation of state material models

  • A purpose-built National Quantum Computing Centre will be built and operated by UKRI at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire
  • as part of the UK's National Quantum Technologies Programme, UK Research and Innovation is leading a programme to establish a National Quantum Computing Centre, a commitment of £93m over 5 years, dedicated to place the UK at the forefront of the field
  • we are seeking up to 3 Measurement Specialists to work within the Superconducting Hardware Technology team in close collaboration with the Software & Systems teams on a variety of challenging science and engineering projects, utilizing and enhancing your skills in qubit hardware and systems architecture, design and implementation, to develop scalable, flexible and robust quantum computing assets that can be deployed to meet the goals of the NQCC enabling the delivery of scalable quantum computing capabilities against the technology roadmap
  • you will help develop dull-stack system integration, setup, and operation of quantum systems with up to 100 qubits whilst defining work plans for specific NQCC projects
  • you will work closely with colleagues across the NQCC to implement the architecture an deploy services, ensuring your technical knowledge of systems is up to date with new advances
  • you will implement measurement, calibration, automation and benchmarking protocols: performing experiments and analysing/ documenting results
