Requirements


  • master’s or PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field
  • at least 5 years industrial hands on laboratory experience and understanding of colloidal systems, polymers, excipients, pharmaceutical analyses, particle sizing, and processes involved in nanotechnology
  • the candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and general computer experience are essential
  • A minimum of a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in Chemistry
  • member of a relevant professional institute
  • relevant experience in specialism related roles
  • experience at a nuclear site in own specialism

  • there is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location

  • tertiary qualifications in chemistry or a related field
  • 2-5 years’ relevant industry experience
  • experience with data collection software such as LIMS
  • preferably experienced in alkali-based chemistry or similar chemical processes, and experienced working with key battery metals
  • intuitive problem-solver with excellent analytical and communication skills
  • able to work independently and on complex tasks with minimal supervision
  • computer literacy
  • relevant degree in a Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc... PhD level is advantageous
  • relevant degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline
  • proven industry experience leading a team of scientists. Experience setting up new laboratory equipment would be advantageous

Responsibility


  • responsible for running production tasks and conducting laboratory work related to the development and characterisation of nanomaterials
  • will be also responsible for training and supervising junior staff, providing resource management, and contingency planning
  • responsible for general tasks of laboratory maintenance, production schedules and adhering to safety and quality measures
  • provision of advice on waste sampling, characterisation and simulant production
  • operation and troubleshooting of an ICP-OES
  • conducting chemical analysis and testing of materials and products
  • developing and optimising chemical processes
  • supporting the development of process documentation
  • writing reports for review by managers
  • ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • you will contribute ideas for new molecules and solutions and processes to be researched to produce such molecules
  • you will set up synthesis, purification, and analytical methods of a wide range of critical long and modified DNA/RNA oligonucleoties by high-resolution, LC-MS, and HPLC
  • as the Process Chemist you will carry out experiments and analysis to produce and characterise target materials within the new product development process with optimised efficiency and effectiveness
  • you will manage budgets, setting up purification and analytical workflows to on-board new technologies and methods to operational effectiveness with your expert knowledge
  • you will Contribute to all aspects of the product and process development and commercialisation, from Initial discovery, process optimisation, process transfer documentation and process scale up/optimisation support to Operations
  • you will on-board your own team where you'd implement scientific and technical training, prepare progress reports and maintain records, whilst communicating effectively across the R&D groups
  • as the Process Chemist you will conduct experimental programs as designated and/or agreed by the Head of Innovation and Technology at scale ranging from 0.1 grams to 5 kilograms and ensure safe and effective set up of experimental equipment
  • you will set up an oligonucleotide synthesis pipeline serving for essential R&D projects, and maintain a safe environment for all members of your team
  • play a key role in setting up, and establishing a peptide synthesis laboratory
  • develop a set of detailed procedures, SOPs, and other documentation for the synthesis, purification, and delivery of peptides to be used by the peptide synthesis team going forwards
