Requirements


  • experience of the essential requirements in the preparation of vehicles for Class 4, 5 and 7 and HGV MOT Test
  • experience in vehicle inspection to meet the standards set by DVSA
  • knowledge of Health and Safety and diagnostic equipment
  • as a Motor Vehicle Fitter, you must possess good personal organisational skills
  • NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds Heavy or Motor Vehicle Craft Studies Park 1, 2 and 3 or Equivalent
  • holder of a valid VOSA MOT tester's certificate
  • health and Safety Certificate to a minimum standard of IOSH Working Safely
  • good interpersonal skills
  • all garage staff must ensure they are working to VOSA standards and must be holders of a valid VOSA MOT tester’s certificate

Responsibility


  • carry out or assist in the repairs on a full range of cars, heavy commercial, light commercial, plant and equipment
  • ensure vehicles are prepared correctly to meet the requirement for MOT and ensure working to VOSA standards
  • undertake vehicle diagnosis and identify faults, errors and engine management codes then order parts
  • as a Motor Vehicle Fitter, you will be responsible for using the Fleet Management System
  • responsible for authorising inspection sheets and reporting any damage repair or non-predictable maintenance
  • liaise with other departments and to operate a flexible system of work to meet departments targets
  • steam clean vehicles and parts as operationally required
  • ensure compliance with the Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Policies and Procedures
  • responsible for deputising in the absence of a Fleet Team Leader
  • to carry out or assist in the repairs of all transport and or plan vehicles as required
  • ensure repair times are followed , targets are maintained, deadlines are met
  • ensure compliance with the Council’s Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Policies and Procedures
  • ensure that safe working practices are followed when working with council vehicles and follow the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s current safety procedures
  • ensure vehicles are prepared correctly to meet the requirements for external appointment times i.e vehicles for MOT and ensure all workshop staff meet VOSA standards when carrying out an MOT
  • performing all duties using methods in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
