experience of working in a support role, both in the community and the home

the role involves working with a 25 year old young woman who has an acquired brain injury and is registered blind
she requires a female support worker due to the level of personal care involved
she lives in Wembley with her family and attends day care provision in the week in the local area
must be a non-smoker
you must have the ability to work on your own unsupervised, or as part of a team
to have a knowledge or level of understanding around Brain Injury
you must have a full UK driving licence and be a confident driver of manual/automatic vehicles
to have a bubble, chatty and outgoing personality
to have experience of working in a community setting or people’s own homes
A calm communication style with clear pronunciation when speaking
you must be prepared to provide personal care
an understanding of the ‘enabling approach’ and the ability to judge when direction needs to be offered to the client
you must be able to read information contained in reports, and also present information clearly and accurately when communicating with the team via emails and reports
A sense of humour is vital, along with an understanding of appropriate boundaries, with a mature, confident, and professional approach
to be able to integrate an understanding of brain injury - displaying empathy but with a non-patronising approach
the ability to follow the support plan, the case manager/team leader and guidance, and to accept feedback
experience of working in a support role

Responsibility

to attend supervision, team meetings and other meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer
to attend training sessions as arranged
to provide assistance with all of the client’s care requirements including showering/bathing, elimination, dressing and night care needs
to administer medication as prescribed and to maintain associated medication records
to prepare/supervise with her feeding regime
to promote the client’s wellbeing and happiness
to provide physiotherapy exercise and positioning as recommended by therapy professionals
to provide assistance with all aspects of the client’s ongoing rehabilitation under the supervision of treating doctors and therapists
to promote independence where able, for the client to develop functional skills
to follow the support programme agreed with the case manager, therapists and the client
to advise the family, or where appropriate the case manager of any concerns regarding the client’s physical and psychological health
to use initiative when unforeseen events occur and the family/case manager are not directly available to provide guidance
to maintain a safe environment for the client, in the home and in all community-based activities
to attend support worker meetings and training sessions as requested
to make a daily report following each duty regarding the client’s welfare
