  • the role involves working with a 25 year old young woman who has an acquired brain injury and is registered blind
  • she requires a female support worker due to the level of personal care involved
  • she lives in Wembley with her family and attends day care provision in the week in the local area
  • must be a non-smoker
  • you must have the ability to work on your own unsupervised, or as part of a team
  • to have a knowledge or level of understanding around Brain Injury
  • you must have a full UK driving licence and be a confident driver of manual/automatic vehicles
  • to have a bubble, chatty and outgoing personality
  • to have experience of working in a community setting or people’s own homes
  • A calm communication style with clear pronunciation when speaking
  • you must be prepared to provide personal care
  • an understanding of the ‘enabling approach’ and the ability to judge when direction needs to be offered to the client
  • you must be able to read information contained in reports, and also present information clearly and accurately when communicating with the team via emails and reports
  • A sense of humour is vital, along with an understanding of appropriate boundaries, with a mature, confident, and professional approach
  • to be able to integrate an understanding of brain injury - displaying empathy but with a non-patronising approach
  • the ability to follow the support plan, the case manager/team leader and guidance, and to accept feedback
  • experience of working in a support role

Responsibility


  • to attend supervision, team meetings and other meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer
  • to attend training sessions as arranged
  • to provide assistance with all of the client’s care requirements including showering/bathing, elimination, dressing and night care needs
  • to administer medication as prescribed and to maintain associated medication records
  • to prepare/supervise with her feeding regime
  • to promote the client’s wellbeing and happiness
  • to provide physiotherapy exercise and positioning as recommended by therapy professionals
  • to provide assistance with all aspects of the client’s ongoing rehabilitation under the supervision of treating doctors and therapists
  • to promote independence where able, for the client to develop functional skills
  • to follow the support programme agreed with the case manager, therapists and the client
  • to advise the family, or where appropriate the case manager of any concerns regarding the client’s physical and psychological health
  • to use initiative when unforeseen events occur and the family/case manager are not directly available to provide guidance
  • to maintain a safe environment for the client, in the home and in all community-based activities
  • to attend support worker meetings and training sessions as requested
  • to make a daily report following each duty regarding the client’s welfare
