Comment on the job position of train driver

Requirements


  • do you live within 60 minutes commuting distance of the depot? For safety reasons you must live within this maximum commuting time to the job location and be able to arrive for a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights which will have varying start and finish times
  • good knowledge of OTM operation
  • sound knowledge of track mechanised maintenance
  • good knowledge of Permanent Way Rules and Regulations, procedures and track safety rules
  • knowledge of Drivers Rules and Regulations
  • knowledge of required machine outputs in relation to track quality
  • in depth knowledge of Permanent Way component parts
  • route competency
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as an OTM Operator or 2 years previous driving experience
  • live within 60 minutes travel time of the vacancy location
  • be 20 years of age or over
  • have an ability to follow set rules and procedures, within a safety conscious environment
  • application sift by the OPC to ensure suitability for the role
  • situational Judgment Test online assessment
  • be willing to undergo a full medical, including a drug and alcohol test
  • driver industry standard assessments – undertaken with a national rail assessor

  • have a minimum height of 5’2” and a maximum height of 6’4” – for safety reasons

Responsibility


  • communicate with control centres and other train drivers to maintain smooth operations and coordinate schedules
  • monitor train systems and equipment to detect and resolve any technical issues
  • carry out Qualified Driver assessments
  • to carry out train driving, train preparation and shunting duties in line with DRS business requirements and services
  • experience • Minimum of 2 years post qualifying experience
  • operate and/or drive “On-Track” machines for which certification of competency has been obtained
  • carry out servicing, cleaning and fueling of machines as directed and carry out minor repairs
  • arrange to complete and return all associated paperwork. This includes forms, signing of log books and other documentation as required
  • comply with all Rules and Regulations and observe all local conditions
  • able to drive road vehicles or willing to learn
  • advise Control when the planned work is not achieved due to operating difficulties, plant performance, crewing, non-provisions of pilotmen etc
  • work away from home to meet contractual requirements
