Requirements


  • transport planning: 1 year
  • bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred but not required
  • at least three or more years' experience in the transport industry
  • A degree qualification in a relevant field
  • have a thorough understanding of the principles of transport planning
  • excellent presentation and technical writing skills
  • the ability to manage their own time to meet project deadlines
  • the ability to develop and run traffic models using Junctions software
  • an understanding of the application of highway design standards and guidance
  • technical experience, including proficiency with relevant industry software e.g. TRICS, TEMPRO
  • educated to Masters level in Transport Planning or equivalent experience
  • knowledge and understanding of current best practice in the promotion of sustainable transport- both in terms of transport policy development and behaviour change initiatives
  • excellent written communication skills with an ability to summarise complex proposals into non-technical language and draft clear, concise and accurate reports and deliver these reports at formal meetings of the council
  • 3 years experience as a Transport Planner
  • good knowledge of transport regulations including WTD and regulations
  • previous experience of using TMS/ routing software
  • excellent organisational and communication skills
  • you will be working Monday - Friday
  • proficient with TRANSYT, LINSIG, ARCADY, PICADY, AUTOCAD; etc
  • A relevant degree level qualification

Responsibility


  • responsible for negotiating
  • work closely with developers, local authorities, and transport operators to ensure transportation planning and infrastructure are integrated into new development projects
  • providing technical reviews and comments to planning applications from a Transport Planning perspective
  • develop transportation plans and strategies that support sustainable and efficient transportation networks within new development projects
  • developing future phases of projects to improve air quality through electric vehicle infrastructure
  • produce Transport Statements and Assessments
  • conduct transportation studies and traffic analysis to inform development planning
  • to develop Merton's long term sustainable travel strategy / plan
  • support the delivery and monitoring of the Local Transport Plan and develop any related transport strategies
  • produce Travel Plans and Speed Survey Reports for a range of projects
  • evaluate and recommend transportation improvements and infrastructure projects within the context of new development projects
  • project managing electric vehicle infrastructure projects from conception through to installation
  • to supervise and manage the work of other officers in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Team
  • to liaise with clients and contractors and prepare proposals and tenders
  • obtaining, analysing and interpreting traffic and transport data from a range of external sources
  • appraising development sites in terms of their accessibility by a range of transport modes
  • undertaking junction capacity assessments
  • day-to-day technical input into projects as well as project management of smaller development proposals
  • inputting to masterplan and junction designs
  • attending and contributing to design team and client meetings
