Comment on the job position of residential support worker

Requirements


  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car to get to work
  • experience as a support worker in residential children's homes
  • willingness to do overnight sleep-ins as part of the role
  • at least 1 years Experience of working with children and Adolescents
  • working individually and within a team
  • be committed to completing QCF /NVQ Level 3 award in Health & Social Care within the set time frame. This is a statutory requirement for all employees wishing to work in childcare
  • awareness of non-verbal communication i.e. eye contact and personal space etc
  • this will be based around structured key work sessions
  • A professional and caring value base i.e. consistency and empathy
  • these sessions will aim to promote the life skills of young people and support their transition into adulthood
  • assist the children and young people to clean their bedrooms, develop their life skills where appropriate and promoting their socialisation
  • maintain the home environment to a high standard and undertake household duties, including tidying common areas, completion of laundry
  • undertaking a food shop, preparation of healthy meals etc
  • attending medical, school or other appointments and meetings with and for the child or young person
  • supporting the children and young people in all ways necessary and assisting them to complete their daily routines; including getting them up, getting them ready for school, promoting their personal hygiene, ensuring they have meals, transporting them to and from school and any after school activities, providing them with a clear bedtime routine and supporting them during the night if they require it
  • NVQ Level 3 or working toward this qualification/equivalence

  • 1 year experience in a similar role within the UK
  • minimum of 12 months' experience of working within the Health and Social Care sector as a Support Worker in the UK
  • enhanced DBS/CRB

Responsibility

  • taking the young person out on activities, family contact and education
  • maintain the home environment, support each child's health and education, and ensure the home is clean and tidy
  • provide a consistent, high-quality service that supports the assessed needs of young people and advocate for their well-being
  • promote a positive safeguarding culture and a strong teamwork ethic
  • support a culture where people are valued and supported to make a difference to the lives of others
  • support or lead a wide range of activities and daily tasks
  • monitor the young person’s ability to engage with everyday living and develop skills where necessary by supporting their identified needs
  • support the young person in settling within the community and accessing local resources
  • encourage and support the young person in accessing education, training or employment as well as supporting them with any application process
  • support and assist the young person around budgeting money, grocery shopping and administer a weekly subsistence allowance
  • maintain accurate record/ log keeping
  • manage a young person living semi-independently in the community; you will be responsible in structuring key work sessions consistent with an independent placement agreement
  • maintain petty cash and receipts for each expenditure
