Requirements

teaching/SEN/SLT Assistant: 2 years

relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN – particularly those with communication and interaction difficulties
be able to reflect on own practice and take on board professional advice
bachelors Degree in relevant area

to deliver pre written training to others related to Speech, Language and Communication
to demonstrate good auditory and perceptual skills in the treatment of clients
to gather and submit statistical data punctually
to demonstrate the ability to reflect on and evaluate the training provided with guidance from a lead Speech and Language Therapist

Responsibility

the senior assistant will work within a therapy discipline working with children with complex and additional needs in the community
they will be an effective member of the Children's integrated Therapy team
the post holder will have significant experience in working with children with additional and complex needs
the post holder will work under the direction of a qualified therapist within the Children's integrated Therapy Service
the post holder will accept an agreed range of clients and manage a delegated caseload in an appropriate environment e.g
person's home, community settings
the post holder will be required to carry their own caseload where they will carry out treatment programmes devised by the clinician
establish a positive relationship with pupils in order to support them in feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn
manage a designated caseload with supervision from speech and language therapist
reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers/SaLT, model techniques and strategies as appropriate
regularly review and monitor progress with speech and language therapist
plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of study which build students’ development of speech and language and social skills
reporting any changing communication or eating and drinking needs to the speech and language therapist
maintain confidential clinical records
to attend and contribute to team and department meetings
to demonstrate the ability to support people with communication difficulties and their parents/carers
to work closely with clients, carers and other professionals to negotiate and agree client management
to monitor stock/equipment levels in own service area and request new equipment as appropriate
salary £22,383 Pro Rata
to demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where significant barriers to understanding exist
