Requirements

  • relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN – particularly those with communication and interaction difficulties
  • be able to reflect on own practice and take on board professional advice
  • to deliver pre written training to others related to Speech, Language and Communication
  • to demonstrate good auditory and perceptual skills in the treatment of clients
  • to gather and submit statistical data punctually
  • to demonstrate the ability to reflect on and evaluate the training provided with guidance from a lead Speech and Language Therapist
  • to demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice with peers and mentors and to identify own strengths and development needs
  • to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of correct moving/handling clients and your limitations within this
  • to have a working knowledge of relevant procedures including safeguarding children
  • proven experience supporting Occupational or Speech & Language Therapy disabilities

Responsibility


  • the senior assistant will work within a therapy discipline working with children with complex and additional needs in the community
  • they will be an effective member of the Children's integrated Therapy team
  • the post holder will have significant experience in working with children with additional and complex needs
  • the post holder will work under the direction of a qualified therapist within the Children's integrated Therapy Service
  • the post holder will accept an agreed range of clients and manage a delegated caseload in an appropriate environment e.g
  • person's home, community settings
  • the post holder will be required to carry their own caseload where they will carry out treatment programmes devised by the clinician
  • establish a positive relationship with pupils in order to support them in feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn
  • manage a designated caseload with supervision from speech and language therapist
  • reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers/SaLT, model techniques and strategies as appropriate
  • regularly review and monitor progress with speech and language therapist
  • plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of study which build students’ development of speech and language and social skills
  • reporting any changing communication or eating and drinking needs to the speech and language therapist
  • maintain confidential clinical records
  • to demonstrate the ability to support people with communication difficulties and their parents/carers
  • to work closely with clients, carers and other professionals to negotiate and agree client management
  • to monitor stock/equipment levels in own service area and request new equipment as appropriate
  • salary £22,383 Pro Rata
  • to demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where significant barriers to understanding exist
  • to respond sensitively at all times
