Requirements


  • you must have appropriate UK professional registration
  • experience working with children
  • experience working with special needs children
  • holds a diploma in specialist play for sick children and young people or equivilant experience
  • knowledge and understanding of child development and ability to implement therapeutic programs of play
  • able to remain calm in an emergency situation
  • experience working within a multidisplinary team
  • experience working in a hospital with sick children or adolescent
  • diploma in nursery nursing or btec childcare and development qualification
  • able to provide basic preparative distraction and post procedural play
  • guy’s and St Thomas’ celebrates, respects and values the diversity of its staff and patients
  • registered HPSET Student Play Specialist or Registered Play Specialist
  • good communicator, works independently and part of a team
  • broad experience working with children and young people in a variety of settings
  • ability to plan, design age appropriate play and developmental activities for children and adolescents

Responsibility


  • to provide safe, individualised play support, distraction and supervision to children attending the Childrens Day Unit
  • to provide safe, individualised play support, distraction and supervision to children attending Outpatients
  • develop resources to guide children through the  experience and ensure a welcoming, play environment
  • mentoring/supervision will be given by the Evelina Play Manager
  • utilise information and IT systems to ensure written records and activity data in accordance with Professional and Trust Standards
  • maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times
  • promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards
