Requirements


  • qualifications: Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
  • experience: Experience in Anatomical Pathology Technology
  • requirements: HCPC Registered
  • hours: 37.5 hours p/w
  • biomedical/Forensic/Mortuary Science Background
  • anatomical Pathology Diploma preferable
  • previous experience working in a Mortuary setting
  • previous experience as a Lab/Mortuary assistant

Responsibility


  • assist consultant pathologists and visiting Forensic Pathologists with all aspects of Autopsy work
  • assist in dealing with all aspects of “High Risk” cases Hazard group ¾ e.g., HIV, Hepatitis C
  • carry out reconstruction of the body after post-mortem examination
  • may be required to photograph foreign objects for legal reasons. Organize Xray’s for post-mortems when appropriate
  • carry out removal of defibrillators from the body prior to cremation
  • maintain post-mortem instruments and equipment in good condition and working order
  • ensure appropriate cleaning, disinfection and sterilization is carried out on instruments, equipment and on the fabric mortuary
  • to ensure the security of the mortuary is always maintained
  • undertaking training that may be deemed appropriate for personal and professional development within the post
  • preparation of bodies for viewing and official identification, enabling bereaved relatives to view their loved ones as required offering advice, comfort, and support
  • be responsible for the organization and provision of containers and fixatives for further studies of tissues/fluids and for the packing and arranging transportation of tissues to other hospitals when required
  • to be conversant with the current health and safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and all other protocols within the departmental code of practice
  • the position is within a NHS Hospital in Cheltenham amongst a strong team, developing new techniques and working to maintain the highest standards within the department
