Requirements


  • understanding of issues relating to learners with additional support needs
  • good written and verbal communication skills
  • basic IT Skills
  • able to work flexibly including off site/some evening working
  • must obtain a satisfactory DBS clearance
  • A Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools or equivalent qualification
  • A Specialist SEN Diploma or Certificate
  • training in Makaton & British Sign Language
  • familiarity with Assistive Technology & AAC to support non-verbal or speech-impaired students
  • experience working with students with physical disabilities and mobility needs, implementing physiotherapy and motor skills development exercises
  • A commitment to inclusive education, with the patience and empathy to support students' social, emotional, and academic progress
  • strong teamwork and communication skills, working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists
  • extensive knowledge/experience with Special Educational Needs
  • be patient and flexible, no day is the same
  • have a good sense of humour
  • genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs
  • previous experience supporting children with SEND / Complex needs
  • be a Psychology Graduate
  • an Honours degree or equivalent
  • have experience in CAMHS / child mental health services

Responsibility


  • teaching Assistant Level 3
  • 18 months
  • overview
  • support and facilitate the learning of identified learners with additional support needs including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities
  • reporting to the class teacher and senior leaders in the school
  • support learners in all learning environments including travel or external activities
  • assist in the preparation, adaptation, maintenance and organisation of learning resources including transcribing notes
  • participate in any colleague review/performance management processes involving the identifying and meeting of training needs for self and others

  • implement mobility support programs, assisting students with physiotherapy exercises, adaptive equipment, and personal care needs to promote independence

  • work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists to provide targeted interventions

  • assist students in navigating the school environment, including classroom transitions, PE sessions, and extracurricular activities
  • the ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure students can access learning through assistive technology, AAC , and adaptive mobility aids
  • facilitate learning through Makaton & British Sign Language where required, ensuring all students can fully participate
