Requirements


  • approved Clinician status
  • A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and in good CPD standing with same
  • current registration with GMC
  • at least five years’ experience in in-patient setting
  • experience of working in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  • knowledge of evidence based practice
  • experience of working in Acute Services
  • in depth knowledge of MHA and MCA
  • ability to take independent Clinical decisions and demonstrate clinical leadership
  • effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • up to date with current practices in in-patient Psychiatry
  • able to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need
  • full GMC registration
  • psychiatry experience within multi-disciplinary teams
  • doctor experience in a similar environment
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • must hold GMC Licence to Practice
  • must hold GMC Licence to Practice and Specialist Registration
  • must hold full GMC with Licence to Practice
  • must be GMC registered with license to practice

Responsibility


  • maintain effective, professional leadership for alongside other Consultant Psychiatrists providing clinical supervision and mentorship
  • work with the Responsible Officer to support the appraisal and revalidation process for other Psychiatrists
  • in collaboration with other clinical colleagues and managers help to develop a comprehensive treatment service that seeks to deliver a high quality response to those suffering from a range of mental health problems based on quality assured evidence based practice
  • participate in an out of hours rota with other Consultant Psychiatric colleagues
  • you will be responsible for providing advice with regard to the psychiatric care of clients within their respective service area. This will entail taking overall responsibility for a defined caseload of patients
  • ensure there is adequate consultant cover across the hospital as required
  • provide high-quality clinical care for inpatients
  • manage a caseload of 14-16 patients
  • work autonomously and contribute to teaching sessions
  • collaborate with a well-established multi-disciplinary team which includes OT, psychologist, visiting GP, physical health practitioner and RMNs
  • participate in an on-call rota
  • collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide specialist assessment and intervention for ADHD
  • write and review prescriptions in line with NICE guidance
  • coordinate medication management and support its transition to primary care
  • contribute to governance, audit, and data reporting
  • provide clinical leadership and expertise within a multidisciplinary community mental health team, overseeing the assessment, treatment, and management of adult patients with a range of mental health conditions
  • lead on the development and implementation of care pathways and treatment plans, collaborating closely with colleagues, service users, and carers to promote recovery-oriented practices and person-centered care
  • offer expert psychiatric consultation and guidance to colleagues within the team, providing supervision and support to junior medical staff, trainees, and other healthcare professionals
  • take clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu
  • swan Ward - 9 bedded female acute ward
