Requirements


  • ideally CTC/SC clearance or must be eligible to go through SC clearance

  • engineering principles for the design of mechanical process systems and building services
  • regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to mechanical system design and construction (including Principal
  • designer responsibilities under CDM)
  • significant post-graduate work experience in a highly regulated industry, ideally some of it in the nuclear industry
  • preferably a Chartered Engineer with IMechE, or working towards
  • engineering design experience is fundamental and nuclear experience is preferable but not essential
  • demonstrable experience in the leadership and direction of others to deliver engineering

Responsibility


  • this role is based in Leicester
  • research and development are key to what we do, and you will have the opportunity to influence the development of future surface, shore based and submarine design concepts as well as the development of new capabilities, tools and processes
  • provide technical liaison, to the Purchaser's project management and technical team along with the Project Manager
  • this state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in de-risking, present and future platforms, energy and propulsion technologies, micro grids and associated systems and solutions for both surface ships and submarines
  • liaise with suppliers for the production of quotations and support their site activities
  • ensure issued documents have been reviewed and is of the required quality, ensuring adherence to specifications and standards
  • the applicant will be responsible for leading mechanical aspects of projects / new installations that are brought in for testing and the systems already operating in the facility, through the design, installation commissioning, test programme delivery and decommissioning
  • the majority of the work will involve the integration of large electro-mechanical systems. The Engineer will lead on the delivery of detailed designs and specifications, overseeing installation, commissioning, and testing
  • work with the work package Lead Engineers to manage the day to day engineering activities
  • responsible for engineering work, to achieve the requirement specification, and compliance with business procedures, standards, and regulations, in terms of its quality, technical content, support planning, resourcing, and progressing with a high focus on safety throughout
  • writing reports, test procedures
  • apply expertise to generate innovative and / or technically differentiated solutions to problems, to deliver added value for clients
  • continuous review and improvement of mechanical engineering processes and project deliverables
  • act as the Product Safety Authority
  • development and issue of design specifications and data sheets
  • build client relationships to make effective use of existing frameworks
  • maintenance/Troubleshooting
  • be the Technical Authority for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline
  • assist the development of the engineering elements of the project/task baseline scope, schedule and budget for multi-discipline delivery
