Requirements


  • educated to degree level in public health or information science or equivalent experience
  • training or experience in validating data including automated routines
  • masters qualification in public health, information science, or a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
  • leadership
  • knowledge of epidemiological investigation
  • line management experience including appraising staff and managing performance
  • delivering at Pace
  • knowledge or experience of basic statistical tests, performing descriptive epidemiology with strong analytical skills, excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • proven scientific report writing skills
  • managing a Quality Service
  • degree in biomedical science or equivalent plus experience
  • endnote and spread sheet software; database skills
  • evidence of continuous professional development
  • able to work in a team
  • evidence of several years’ experience in clinical diagnostic
  • ability to organise and co-ordinate work
  • evidence of interest in future developments in microbiology
  • able to work to written guidelines
  • able to analyse and evaluate evidence
  • basic knowledge of Pharmacology and Toxicology is desirable, as well as an interest/work experience in the animal care sector

Responsibility


  • supporting NHS and Private sector laboratories in ensuring they are reporting all mandatory infectious disease results to UKHSA
  • where appropriate, undertake specific steps of an epidemiological study under direction including to design and develop questionnaires e.g
  • managing and supporting quality assurance of results being fed into UKHSA national laboratory surveillance system
  • contribute to surveillance activities through assuring data quality, undertaking complex data analyses and seeking to improve and enhance databases and systems
  • building collaborative relationships with operational stakeholders, such as NHS and Private laboratories
  • support Field Service in extracting and analysing data from SGSS to help support them in epidemiological and surveillance activities

  • design and develop queries to analyse data, create automated reports, import/export data from a variety of sources
  • maintaining extranet website using appropriate software
  • being 'Author’ of webpages
  • revising content of website / webpages to update information
  • improving accessibility and viewing capacity
  • assessing website to improve impact, monitor usage and increase accessibility
  • uploading documents to website / webpages as required
  • writing email bulletins/notifications for communication to users
