Comment on the job position of financial controller

Requirements


  • degree Holder or above in Accounting, CPA Qualified Accountant
  • big 4 audit training would be advantageous but not mandatory
  • at least 5-8 years of relevant working experience, and with exposure to team management
  • former experience in a law firm is preferred but not mandatory, professional services preferred
  • excellent knowledge of accounting principles, practices and ability to lead and manage a team
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CA qualification
  • proven experience in a similar financial controller role
  • management Reporting, Statutory Accounts, Budgeting, Forecasting, Reconciliation, Cashflow, Business Partnering
  • minimum of 5 years of experience in financial reporting along with having at least 3 years of post qualification experience
  • you will take complete ownership of the budgeting and forecasting whilst business partnering with both internal and external stakeholders
  • strong understanding of management reporting and statutory accounts
  • excellent budgeting and forecasting skills
  • be available immediately or on a 1 week notice period
  • advanced reconciliation and cash flow analysis abilities
  • have a proven track record of heading up year-end statutory reporting processes
  • broad knowledge of all accounting, financial and business principles
  • qualified accountant with experience in management accounting
  • experience in multisite retail / ecommerce business would be advantageous
  • in-depth understanding of cash flow management, bank reconciliation and bookkeeping
  • firsthand experience with budgeting and risk management

Responsibility


  • prepare clear and accurate financial reports and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders
  • ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are met in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules, including review of static client balances
  • responsible for the preparation of the budgeted cash flow and analysis of the resultant covenant results
  • oversee production of the Annual Report and Financial Statements
  • review of the EU monthly management profit and loss account and balance sheet including variance analysis and full commentary are delivered within the month end close timeline
  • review of reports circulated to the EU Credit Committee and chairing the monthly meetings with the Regional Divisional Leaders and Revenue Control Manager
  • maintain the firm's compliance with applicable HMRC legislation and Solicitors' Accounts Rules
  • manage a Finance & Accounting team to perform monthly financial reporting and accounting duties
  • ad hoc projects assigned by Financial Controller / Directors
  • oversee the reconciliation and maintenance of partner reserves within the general ledger , including the payment of monthly drawings and quarterly distributions and preparation and review of partner leaving statements
  • manage the year-end financial and SAR compliance audits
  • take full ownership of the Management Information reporting pack and the process
  • develop Financial reporting across the business, ensuring effective, timely and accurate
  • ownership for the production of the monthly management financial statements, which will be consolidated
  • leadership of the finance team , ensuring each team member is developing and is stretched to meet full potential
  • supporting a finance department of 12 - directly responsible for a team of 3
  • responsible for driving strategies relating to improved financial planning and management, cost savings, financial legislation, budget setting etc
  • monitor all financial activities and performance against financial strategies presenting results and recommendations to the board
  • produce monthly management accounts, financial accounts, and oversee financial audit and internal control
  • conduct analysis to prepare monthly, quarterly annual forecasts
