- the post-holder will be the in-house owner of our student-facing technologies - including our student recruitment system, virtual learning environment, and several bespoke e-learning websites
- under the leadership of Professor Laurence Pearl, we are seeking a talented and highly motivated expert to join the Division of Structural Biology as Senior Electron Microscopy Facility Manager to lead our state-of-the-art multi-user research facility
- future developments at the ICR, supportedenabled by substantial infrastructure investment, will include in situ Structural Biology CLEM, cryo-electron tomography
- the post-holder will plan and manage the operation and maintenance of cryo-electron microscopes and associated equipment, provide dedicated and high-quality training and technical support of scientists in the use of this equipment, data analysis, budget management, and continued technical development, as well as contributing to longer term planning for technological advancements in this area
- at times, it will be necessary to develop a technical specification for external or internal developers, and the post-holder will coordinate in-house testing of new functionality
- this is an ideal opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic scientist to work with world-leading researchers applying their experience to implement new tools and technologies in the facility
- key Requirements
- liaising with hospitals to collect patient data according to protocol
- duration of Contract : 12 months in the first instance
- we are seeking someone who can provide examples of successfully managing and completing several complex projects in parallel
- creating a new module for our cancer science training website, using a story-based approach to introduce new PhD students to the lifecycle of a cancer science discovery
- they will be a champion for the use of plain English, and will provide advice and assistance with branding and tone of voice in education-related documents
- further equipment includes a Pelco easigloweasiGlow, Tergeo plasma cleaner, Edwards auto Auto 306 carbon coater, Vitrobot mark Mark IV, Two Gatan 626 cryo-holders, and a Gatan 655 dry pumping station
- duration of Contract : Six month fixed-term contract
- the post-holder will work with both scientific and corporate teams across The Institute of Cancer Research
Requirements
- the successful candidate must have press office and science communication experience
- you will be Self-motivated and resilient, with a real desire to promote inclusivity and reinforce a positive workplace culture at ICR
- A Degree in STEM and/ or experience of working in scientific research is desirable
