Responsibility

  • trading Standards is a small team providing a statutory function
  • the service has a duty to protect the public and ensure that businesses are trading fairly in the city
  • the service enforces a wide range of legislation and currently due to two vacant posts and one officer going through the enabling attendance procedure, there is a lack of competent officers and a knowledge and skills gap, which means that cases are not being investigated, and as such we are unable to perform our statutory duties.We are currently advertising for a Trading Standards Officer post which we are finding difficult to recruit to, and an approval to recruit form is also going through the system
  • undertake the investigation of complaints and inspections of premises, including joint inspections with other agencies to ensure compliance with legislation as required ensuring all relevant legislation is being complied with
  • any other duties and responsibilities within the range of the salary grade
  • be proficient in the use of IT systems to ensure appropriate records and files are maintained
