Responsibility


  • you will preserve the skill level of the dog's drug detection ability, whilst maintaining
  • undertake comprehensive fire risk assessments, evaluating existing controls and recommending improvements to minimize risks
  • ensuring high standards of prisoner care and supporting their rehabilitation
  • be a flexible resource to the searching requirements of the establishment
  • develop and deliver fire safety training programs for all staff and prisoners, including induction sessions and refresher courses
  • conducting security checks and search procedures on prisoners, staff, and visitors
  • organize and oversee regular fire drills to enhance preparedness
  • promote safer custody and violence reduction
  • ensure the safety of all persons who come in to contact with the dogs
  • contribute to the development and maintenance of fire emergency response plans, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in the event of a fire
  • assisting prisoners in preparing for release by maintaining professional relationships with health and probation services and other professionals
  • maintaining high standards of security and safety while promoting a positive, restorative and rehabilitative environment
  • it is a necessity to maintain all veterinary records and costs of the drug detection dogs
  • conduct investigations into fire incidents, identifying root causes, and making recommendations to prevent future occurrences
  • you might be working on a main wing with a team of other PCOs responsible for prisoners
  • support a team of other Prison Custody Officers and work as a collaborative unit
  • supervise residents at mealtimes and manage regular routines
  • you’ll need to deal with the more challenging aspects of prison life such as abusive and violent behaviour
  • oversee movement around the facilities – visiting hours, education, and work placements
  • you’ll be working with all sorts of prisoners including those on long sentences, people convicted of serious crime and vulnerable individuals
