Requirements


  • bachelors Degree in a technical discipline or significant experience in Materials Technology, specifically around Printed Circuit Board technologies
  • familiar working in an NPI Development and Production environment with PCB Technologies
  • an understanding of the trade-offs between Design and DFM and how they influence product reliability and cost
  • the candidate will be a good collaborator and able to main effective working relationships using strong written and verbal communication skills
  • the role will require someone who is enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated, analytical, able to work alone and in teams and keen to develop their skills and progress their career within the business
  • A minimum of a Degree or HNC/HND in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or similar
  • surface Treatments incl. Chemical & Electro-Chemical Processing
  • experience in a materials design/selection and/or process engineering role is preferred
  • environmental regulations, including REACH, TSCA etc
  • experience with Environmental legislation, including the REACH regulations
  • special processes), process control and compliance
  • experience in the aerospace industry or with a supplier to aerospace industry preferred
  • the job involves knowledge of aerospace materials specifications and the manufacturing processes used to make the part
  • experience with NADCAP and Industry specification requirements is desirable
  • in-depth knowledge of and experience with Aerospace Materials and Processes, Process Selection, Specifications and Applications
  • ability to communicate clearly & concisely on complex technical matters to various levels in the organisation
  • ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks quickly in a dynamically changing environment
  • rolling Stock related technical background
  • minimum 3-5 years of depot work or Maintenance Engineer Level 3
  • experience in depot work environment

Responsibility


  • developing in-depth knowledge of the technical discipline
  • ensure Lessons Learned are communicated clearly with Design and Manufacturing Teams
  • this post offers a challenging but rewarding opportunity to work with the PCB Technologist Staff Engineer in analysis and diagnosis of issues surrounding the Design, Manufacture and Test of PCB based technology
  • carry out testing and investigation of of PCB based technology under the guidance of the PCB Technologist Staff Engineer, as part of New Product Development, Design for Manufacture assessment and Non-Conformance resolution
  • work with the NPI and R&D Teams to ensure appropriate PCB Technology is selected for new product designs. This encompasses selection of the bare board technology, assembly components and assembly methods
  • liaise with Supply Chain Manufacturing Engineers and Sustaining Engineering Team to ensure appropriate Design for Manufacture and Test techniques are fed back into new designs
  • developing relationships across the business is a key part of this role as you will be liaising with many different stakeholders across Engineering, Supply Chain, Programs and external suppliers
  • review existing drawings for REACH obsolescence
  • review REACH compliant alternative process specifications and applicability
  • provide justification report for alternative process/material against each customer/design specification
  • create IR’s to instigate drawing changes providing technical justification
  • work in accordance with procedures and design standards and to contribute to developing best working practices
  • be committed to delivering against project schedules and meeting project milestones whilst working within a multi project team environment
  • control and challenge the failure description of outgoing materials and the information in the repair reports from OEMs
  • update and KPI the repair report database
  • KPI the improvements on all these areas
  • leading projects end to end to develop and validate new materials and processes
  • developing the finishing processes for our materials, at small and large scale, including embossing and finish coatings
  • running process trials for scale up of our materials including working with key external partners regionally, nationally and internationally
  • developing and maintaining technical documentation, such as quality standards and standard operating procedures, for use internally and externally
