Responsibility
- solve complex engineering problems using mechanical engineering principles including the definition of materials
- use 3D and 2D CAD to generate models and drawings of components and assemblies
- use FEA to analyse design performance

- all aspects of mechanical design including design calculations, producing working 2D & 3D CAD drawings and assemblies using Solidworks
- create and maintain bills of materials
- apply technical knowledge with design for manufacture principles to present innovative design solutions to customers and the business
- concept system design including circuits, pumps, tooling and fabrication
- creation of detailed engineering drawings and bills of materials
- lead technical reviews, keep and maintain tracking documents related to the delivery of products
- producing designs in 3D CAD as well as 2D drawings
- planning and co-ordinating projects from the design stage through to implementation and commissioning, on time and within budget
- work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives
- perform design calculations to the applicable standards to support design decisions
- produce engineering calculations to ensure specifications are met
- to ensure all drawings fully comply with the relevant specifications and client’s requirements
- take ownership of project responsibilities, producing clear and accurate designs and BOMs
- managing products and projects from concept to production
- producing Risk Assessment’s & Standard Operating Procedures
- create specifications that can be used in the procurement of bought out components
- analysis of information and data to influence design decisions and aid the development of new and existing products
- produce P&ID drawings and bill of materials for each design using AutoCAD
- write technical reports and specifications/manuals
- be fully competent with the PLM system and encourage full utilisation for document control
- creating associated design documentation and BOM’s
- analysing production processes and identifying opportunities to increase productivity, efficiency & throughput
- work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure product feasibility
- produce detail drawings and general arrangement drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- to manage all design related tools and issues
- contribute to project review meetings, organising and chairing cross-functional design reviews
- liaising with suppliers from UK & around the World
- looking for new ways to improve Health & Safety Standards throughout the site
- building and testing of prototypes and engineering samples
- generate detailed engineering drawings and CAD models for the manufacture of prototype and production components, jigs, fixtures and gauges
- lead on design reviews to communicate system design to full project team
- identify and implement new systems and processes to drive quality and efficiency of design
- be responsible for the relevant design and simulation activities allocated to a specific project
- researching new materials and processes
- working as part of a team to improve the efficiency of project design and installations
- workshop engineering – Hands-on development
- draft technical reports and proposals, test specifications and procedures, user manuals, work instructions and test reports
- carry out technical analysis and calculations for the purpose of checking and approving drawings
- producing working prototypes of designs
- providing costings and analysis on project lifecycles
- utilise design tools such as CAD, FEA, and FMEA for the design, visualisation, analysis, and validation of prototype and production products along with the jigs, fixtures required for manufacture
- support the continuous improvement program
- reverse engineer and re-design components

- degree in mechanical engineering or experience working in a similar role
- 3D and 2D CAD software competency
- minimum HND qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
- must have an appropriate Engineering Related Degree
- educated to minimum HND level in an engineering discipline
- A HND or Degree in an Engineering discipline
- minimum 3 years’ experience within a similar design role
- minimum HNC qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
- experience with a PDM system
- 2-5 years previous experience in a design or mechanical engineering role
- experienced user of 3D CAD using Autodesk Inventor or a similar package
- minimum of 3 years’ experience in an engineering design or mechanical engineering role
- minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Design Engineer role
- degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Design/Product Engineering
- highly proficient using 3D CAD – Solidworks
- understanding and application of GD&T
- proficient with Computer Aided Design software – Creo would be advantageous
- experience of producing P&ID drawings and bill of materials
- proficient with 3D part/assembly design & 2D drawing for manufacture ideally using Creo
- experience of using 3D CAD ideally CREO or similar package
- highly proficient in the use of 3D CAD software
- previous experience working in manufacturing would be advantageous
- component and or assembly design
- FEA experience is desirable
- general understanding of thermodynamics
- practical knowledge of General Dimensioning & Tolerancing
- worked in a manufacturing background with experience of modern manufacturing techniques
- have an excellent understanding of manufacturing processes relating to plastics and metals such as injection moulding, forging, and casting
- ability to read engineering drawings and knowledge of engineering calculations
- understanding of design for manufacture
