Requirements


  • A good honours degree in engineering, materials science, a physical sciences subject, or related subject
  • STM book publishing experience
  • previous experience of developing and working with Editorial Boards
  • commissioning

  • A deep understanding of digital book publishing and the commercial fiction market, and an ability to spot trends
  • solid track record of acquiring and successfully publishing commercial fiction and building author brands in the digital space
  • impeccable communication skills and an ability to forge strong, long-lasting relationships with authors, agents, internal teams and freelancers alike
  • strong business judgement, and an ability to use data to inform decisions and measure results
  • solid negotiations skills
  • excellent and creative editor, proofreader and copywriter, with a great eye for commercial packaging
  • excellent organisation skills, and the ability to successfully manage a busy list to tight deadlines
  • A proven ability to continuously insist on high standards and deliver best-In-class publishing experiences for authors
  • additional experience of novelty and/or picture book publishing would be an advantage
  • they will have an established network of existing agent and author relationships and excellent negotiating skills
  • as such, you must be communicative, flexible, pro-active and motivated, and able to use your initiative in handling competing priorities
  • being highly organised with a keen eye for detail is a must
  • the ideal candidate will be an experienced colour non-fiction editor, with strong market knowledge and a proven track record of both spotting talent and proactively developing new ideas and inventive formats
  • previous line management experience would be beneficial
  • we want someone who can make an impact quickly, working across a wide range of formats as well as pitching new ideas for the list

Responsibility

  • working closely with Sales and Marketing teams to support the disseminating of key and timely information to secure products' reach to market
  • undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager
  • acquire and publish commercial fiction books and help build author brands
  • develop and maintain strong relationships with authors, literary agents and industry contacts
  • actively contribute to the acquisition and editorial strategy of the imprint
  • work closely with the Embla Books team to continuously raise the bar and deliver a best-in-class publishing experience for our authors
  • working with the Publishing Director on bigger titles and key authors
  • your responsibilities will extend to helping with charity commission compliance. For example, attending trustees’ meetings and documenting actions and discussions
  • hands-on journal development, including commissioning content for the journal
  • ensure that all published content meets the required scientific standards - make final accept/reject/revise content decisions
  • maintain the quality, profile and performance of your journal
  • develop specialised scientific knowledge of allocated subject areas
  • manage budgets and ensure content aligns with Premier’s brand voice
