Responsibility
take a full role within the counselling service in providing assessments, crisis management interviews using agreed methodology and following college policies
carry out and co-operate in monitoring, evaluation, audit and where appropriate research
keep accurate records in line with agreed protocols
work within the Ethical Framework Guidelines of BACP
work as part of a team, use protocols of the counselling service and attend meetings as required, including those relevant to the general wellbeing of learners and development of the Service
provide consultation to staff, parents or carers who are concerned about a learner, whilst respecting client confidentiality
refer learners as appropriate to services inside and external to the college
offer a range of therapeutic counselling interventions appropriate to learner needs, including short term one to one counselling and group work as required and promote resilience, self-efficacy and wellbeing through one to one work, group work via both face to face and online provision
Requirements
diploma in Counselling, or recognised qualifications at equivalent level Accreditation with BACP, or actively pursuing accreditation
degree level or equivalent
experience of working in an FE and HE setting
significant post qualifying experience
experience and active interest in working within a multidisciplinary area
knowledge of mental health issues and awareness of the signs of mental illness to facilitate appropriate referrals
