- POST TITLE : Caretaker - 37 hours
- reports to: School Business Manager - Head Teacher
- to ensure that the premises are open for use as and when required in accordance with the specifications of the SLT/Governing Body and securing the premises after use
- to inform the Senior Leadership Team and liaise with the Business Manager regarding inconsistencies after evaluating works carried out on the premises
- monitor the work of contractors working on site
- read Gas, Electric and Water metres as required
- test fire alarms weekly. Maintain test register
- to attend appropriate Health & Safety training courses
- show a duty of care and take appropriate action to comply with Health & Safety requirements at all times
- produce a Termly report for the Head teacher and Governors re: Health and Safety issues and Building Maintenance
- any other work requested by, and deemed appropriate by, the Head teacher and Governors by agreement with the caretaker
- regular checking of security devices/systems and setting of the alarm systems
- assist with fire drill practices
- ensuring that all cupboards and store areas are kept clean and tidy. Cupboards containing harmful substances must be kept in a secure/locked position
- report any defects of building, furniture, fittings and equipment to the School Business Manager and Head Teacher
- supervision of cleaning staff and monitoring of cleaning standards
- ensure that all lights and heating are working effectively
- REPORTS TO: Site Manager/Business Manager
- ensuring that the school premises and furnished areas are safe and in good order
- reporting to the Site Manager any repairs and maintenance work required at the Academy which is beyond the competence of the caretaking staff
- ensuring storage bin areas are kept clean and tidy
- disinfect drains and dustbins regularly
- assist in the appointment and interviewing of cleaning staff
- ensure that the boiler house is tidy and that no flammable material is stored there
- MAIN PURPOSE: To work under the direct instruction of the Acting Head of School, undertake general caretaking duties
- ensuring that all cleaning equipment is in a safe and efficient working condition
- should security company key holders require it, responding to, and resetting of, the school alarm, liaising with the police and alarm company
- you may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site, in school holidays or weekends
- keep paths, entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of children, parents, staff and visitors
- noting, monitoring and reporting any defects in the school buildings to the School Business Manager and Head teacher
- routine and non-routine opening and securing of buildings and grounds
- carrying out specific procedures in the event of fire, flood, accident or major damage

- A hard-working, honest, dependable, self-motivated person to act as school caretaker/cleaner and school cleaning supervisor, willing to uphold the ethos and support the aims and values of St Michael’s Academy
