residential childcare worker

  • GCSE or equivalent

Responsibility

  • build positive relationships with the children, establishing trust and promoting a sense of belonging and security
  • create a nurturing and stimulating environment, organising and facilitating age-appropriate activities, outings, and recreational opportunities
  • support children in their daily routines, including meals, personal hygiene, schoolwork, and leisure activities, encouraging independence and life skills development
  • observe and document significant information, incidents, and progress in written reports and contribute to the overall assessment and evaluation process
  • collaborate with colleagues, therapists, and external professionals to provide comprehensive care, ensuring effective communication and coordination of support services
  • provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, well-being, and physical and emotional needs are met
  • promote and maintain a safe and secure environment, implementing safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and health and safety guidelines
  • support children in developing positive social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution techniques, providing guidance and role modelling appropriate behaviour

Requirements

  • QCF 3
  • completion / working towards completion of QCF level 3 within the regulatory 2 year requirement
  • prior experience working with children and young people, preferably in a residential care or childcare setting
  • sound understanding of child development principles, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care approaches
  • ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals
  • flexibility and adaptability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required in a residential care setting
  • basic knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and safeguarding procedures related to residential childcare
