• to be responsible for the management, co-ordination and development of a range of quality services for young people accommodated within the home

• to ensure that the Statement of Purpose is appropriate to the needs of young people and consistent in practice
• to promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, other staff within the Home, and other agencies, to meet the needs of young people
• accountable to: Responsible Individual
• to set and review developmental and improvement targets and objectives for the Home’s staff team and ensure outcomes are measurable
• hours of Work: 40 hours per week
• to provide operational management of the staff team and to deploy appropriate staff resources in order that key tasks are fulfilled
• to take the lead in setting standards and evaluating achievements; to take a proactive role in securing improvements in the quality of services provided by the Home
• to have line management responsibilities for the staff team, ensuring that all staff receive appropriate induction, supervision and appraisal
• to contribute to the development of strategic and operational policies and service initiatives, aimed at improving the service provided by the Home
• to ensure robust vetting and recruitment procedures for staff
• to promote and implement the Home’s Equality and Diversity policies and procedures
• additionally, to ensure the provision of high quality emotional and physical care, appropriate activities, comfortable accommodation and the service of keyworkers in accordance with the Home’s policies, procedures and practice
• to ensure that effective financial budgets, control, administration and records comply with expectations and procedures
• to be responsible for ensuring a two-way flow of information between staff and supervisory/management
• to ensure that all Health and Safety Regulations are complied with

Requirements

• level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare - or be working towards it
• demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development
• relevant other professional qualification

• experience of understanding and compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, particularly the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
• application Form / Interview / Assessment
• ability to demonstrate reasoning, numeracy, literacy and technology skills to good standard
• experience of young people with EBD
• ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with external organisations and services
• advanced knowledge of child protection and in particular Safeguarding
• assertive and proactive leadership with the ability to exercise authority as appropriate
• budget management
• effective communication skills set both verbally and in writing
• previous homes graded as ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’
• A positive approach to problem solving
• skilled in conflict resolution
• experience in the debriefing of staff following an action/incident and being analytical in making recommendations for improvements
• operational foresight, i.e. the ability to anticipate potential adverse reactions and/or consequences caused by own or service’s actions
• relevant trainer certificates/qualifications
• good presentation skills in the delivery of formal and informal presentations
