Reviews are important from the employer's point of view - that's a well-known fact. Most of our users are employees of companies and they are also the ones who leave most of the feedback. But that's not an easy task. Fear of problems at work, conflicts in the team or confrontations with the boss and being fired are just some of the factors that stress employees. Should we think of online reviews as employee courage?

Creating a good job market is one of our goals. That is why we have ensured anonymity in response to our users' needs. You do not have to register or log in with us. On GoWork you can share your experiences and reviews about companies without any fear. Worker safety is just as important online as it is in the workplace, and anonymous reviews help with that.

We want you all to feel safe here changing together working conditions for better <3

How impactful are reviews?

Criticism does not have to be frightening. Feedback, both good and negative, is what drives development and enables people and organisations to become better.

Reacting to reviews has benefits beyond impressing prospective candidates. It can also have an effect on your company's bottom line and decide its long-term success.

Are employers learning to appreciate candid feedback?

Most companies recognise that the trend towards openness is not just irreversible; it also provides them with information that could be critical.

What does workplace transparency entail?

Because employee review sites can provide such thorough information to job applicants, interviews are becoming more of a "two-way street." Yvonne Smyth, Hays' director of HR and legal recruitment practises in the UK and Ireland, agrees.

"Professionals have become much more likely to challenge prospective employers on why they should join their organisation, what’s in it for them and how they’ll be able to further their career," she said for Glassdoor.

Existing employees' relationships with their supervisors are likewise being influenced by such sites. The most major reform involves pay confidentiality. According to Glassdoor data, 85% of UK firms do not reveal their internal salary ranges.

Why are negative reviews valuable?

People and especially employers, tend to underestimate the value that bad reviews bring them.

But how can a bad review be beneficial for you? Mostly because it gives you the opportunity to make people interested in you. Many people don’t actually think about the good reviews at first when checking something out because being good is expected, it’s the bad reviews that are more interesting. A bad review that is properly handled and responded to, can give you much more value than you think!

According to Power Reviews, an interesting discovery has been made, showing that a slightly lower ranking than the perfect 5-star performs better in terms of encouraging people to take interest in it. The peak interest oscillates between 4.2 to 4.5 rating. Above 4.5 rating the interest actually drops. Is it because the responses to negative reviews show that companies care about their public image? Or maybe because 5-star ratings make a “too good to be true” impression and a little lower ratings are more believable?

Whatever the case, it’s clear that negative reviews can be as much valuable as good reviews if handled properly. So be sure to make the best use of them!

Where to look for online reviews?

According to Brightlocal, the Local Consumer Review Survey examined how customers utilize online reviews to inform themselves about the businesses in their local area. It is stated that more people than ever before are reading online reviews. When looking for nearby businesses, 77% of people read reviews either "always" or "frequently" in 2021 which is 17% more than in 2020.

Which sites do users evaluate businesses on? According to the survey, the top three websites used to search for online reviews are Google, Yelp, and Facebook. But it should be mentioned that the vast majority of these reviews are from a consumer perspective. But there are also websites that provide a forum-based place for a specific group of people for instance - potential employees. GoWork.uk is a primary example of such a website, it allows its users to write reviews, rate, and even ask about their employers. We can all agree that most people looking for a job are interested in their potential employers, GoWork is a perfect place to look for information about them!

According to new government plans (gov.uk) to make flexible working the default, millions of employees will be allowed to request it from the first day of their job.

A variety of new initiatives will give workers more freedom over when, where, and how they work, which will make them more satisfied and effective. Flexible scheduling has been shown to help workers maintain a healthy work-life balance, supporting those who have obligations or responsibilities like looking after children or vulnerable individuals.

There is a compelling business argument for flexible working arrangements in addition to the obvious advantages for employees. Flexible working fosters a more diverse workplace and workforce by reducing some of the unseen barriers to employment, which, according to studies, increases financial benefits.

How about you? Are you satisfied with flexibility at your job? Please share your opinion on your working conditions and help build a better workspace nationwide!

Job interview in virtual reality?

As futuristic as it sounds - it’s not so far away as you may think.

A group of students from Sandwell College in West Bromwich used worldwide available VR technology to perform mock interviews and see how it would play out.

The software used by these students is mainly focused on the aforementioned mock interviews but the idea has been put in motion so we probably won’t have to wait much longer for some employers willing to try out real job interviews in virtual reality!

It may not be the most convenient method of hiring candidates but imagine how fun would it be! And we all need some more fun at work, don’t we?
