- provide exceptional, thoughtful, and efficient customer service and offer personalised recommendations appropriate for each customer’s interests and reading experience
- be friendly and welcoming; engage with customers and train staff to do the same
- merchandise stock to maximise sales and to promote interest in reading generally
- efficiently manage day-to-day operations of the bookshop, including opening and closing procedures, customer sales and orders, cashing up and daily reconciliation, inventory management, and staffing
- participate in the development of a website with ecommerce capabilities
- encourage ‘book chat’ and connection wherever practical
- regularly review financial position, including budgeting, sales analysis, and inventory management, to drive profitability and growth
Requirements
- experience as Manager or Assistant Manager of a bookshop
- experience with Batch and Batchline
- strong working knowledge of computer and bookshop systems - Stock Management, POS, MS Office/Google Workspace
- bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
- passionate about reading with a strong knowledge of current and backlist Adult, YA and Children’s titles across various genres
- deep knowledge of children’s and YA books
- excellent spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills
- experience working with children
