Requirements

  • A degree in Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline
  • knowledge of fractography and the forensic engineering of metallic materials
  • in depth knowledge of testing characterization techniques, such as SEM/EDS, hardness and microscopy
  • understanding of corrosion and their protection mechanisms
  • understanding and experience of failures of engineering components
  • experience with metallic materials and their microstructure
  • experienced with specifying, implementing and evaluating testing programmes
  • hands-on experience with metallurgical sample preparation

Responsibility

  • carry all hands-on metallurgical work from sample preparation to examination and reporting including routine as well as investigative work
  • maintain and ensure compliance with Operating Procedures Manual
  • carry out metallurgical failure investigations
