- understanding of domestic abuse and the effects of abuse on women and children
- full UK driving licence required for this post
- SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Health care or equivalent professional qualification or willing to work towards this qualification which meets SSSC registration requirements for Support Workers in Housing Support Services
Requirements
- responding appropriately and empathically to women who are emotional or in a distressed state
- accurately and appropriately advising women of their welfare rights, legal rights, housing options, benefits and child support options
- assisting women with necessary paperwork for application for housing benefits and other services
- effectively assessing referrals to the service , completing risk assessments and admitting women, children and young people to our refuge accommodation
- providing accurate and relevant information to enable women to make informed choices and decisions
- assessing, with the woman, her support and safety requirements and developing with her a support package which is tailored to her risks and needs, and which takes a culturally sensitive approach
- providing practical and emotional support in an empowering and non-judgemental way as part of a planned input to support women to recover from domestic abuse
- signposting women appropriately to other support services when necessary to ensure all of her needs are met
