hgv technician
Responsibility
- diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on a variety of HGVs including trucks, trailers, and other heavy-duty vehicles
- conduct thorough inspections and utilize diagnostic equipment to identify and repair faulty components and systems
- collaborate with other team members to prioritize and efficiently complete repairs in accordance with established timelines and safety guidelines
- ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including health and safety protocols, emissions regulations, and vehicle maintenance requirements
- document all maintenance and repair activities accurately, including parts used, labour hours, and findings, using electronic or paper-based systems
- keep abreast of industry advancements, technological updates, and best practices to continuously improve skills and efficiency
- provide guidance and support to junior mechanics as needed, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team
- perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, and brake inspections to prevent breakdowns and prolong vehicle lifespan. Perform pre MOT preparation work, defects and running repairs
Requirements
- proven experience as an HGV technician, working on heavy-duty vehicles
- proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical systems in HGVs
- strong knowledge of HGV engines, transmissions, brakes, and other critical components
- familiarity with diagnostic equipment and tools commonly used in the maintenance and repair of HGVs
- excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
- solid understanding of health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and compliance requirements related to HGV maintenance
- effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and clients
- valid HGV technician certification or equivalent qualifications
