Requirements
professionally part-qualified CCAB or equivalent
strong experience in a financial accounting role in a complex organisation working at a strategic and operational level
A good understanding of current accounting policies and standards, including HE/FE SORP, and VAT regulations
effective decision-making skills, the confidence to delegate and to empower colleagues with an open and consultative style of management
working closely with the Senior Financial Accountant, the Financial Accountant will support all aspects of financial accounting for the University, including the production of financial accounts to support month-end and year-end management reporting, administration of day-to-day treasury management and the production of indirect taxation returns for the University
in addition, the Financial Accountants will provide daily supervision of staff, and regular review of financial information to ensure that all financial information is correctly recorded and reported, supporting regulatory compliance and a successful audit of the year-end financial statements
Responsibility
provide advice and support to academic divisions and professional support departments on relevant financial controls and technical accounting and indirect tax issues
produce quarterly VAT returns, ensuring that transactions are correctly reported
where relevant, manage, motivate and develop staff, providing clear objectives and managing performance against these, to ensure that staff are appropriately motivated and trained to carry out their responsibilities to the required standards in terms of service expectations
produce regular financial information, to include the review of transactions for accuracy and completeness, maintain compliance with all relevant financial reporting standards
