Responsibility

• working on own initiative, reporting directly to the directors
• manage day to day running of the accounts office and control all accounting systems
• maintain reliable and accurate accounting records, sales/purchase ledgers, journals

• responsible for completing all legal cashier banking duties
• preparing monthly staff payroll in preparation for external accountants, ensuring PAYE/NI liabilities are paid in a timely manner
• ensure that all office and client bank accounts are reconciled on a regular basis
• payment and recording of disbursements i.e. counsel fees/ court fees/medical agencies / ATE insurance
• billing – ensure that all bills raised by fee earners, are posted in a timely and accurate manner
• ensure client monies are paid in adherence with SRA rules
• cashflow – to monitor cash requirements and maintain a rolling cashflow, ensure company bank accounts are maintained within their agreed facility
• auditors & Audit – assist and prepare all information necessary for the annual audit
• HMRC – Ensure payment of quarterly vat liabilities are made in good time – Preparation and submission is outsourced to external accountant

• posting and allocating transactions
• comply with SRA accounts rules
• liaising with Solicitors and Fee Earners on a daily basis
• produce documentation for auditors
• submitting and reconcile VAT returns
• bank reconciliations
• running of month and year end procedures
• setting up and attending client meetings
• ensure all legal files are kept up to date with client correspondence

Requirements

• A minimum of 12 months experience working as a Legal Cashier in a Solicitors firm Knowledge and understanding of the SAR account rules
