Responsibility
- keeping the inventory of reagents and consumables accurate and up to date and maintaining the fixed asset register for laboratory equipment
- experience in performing basic microbiology and / or protein techniques to support the team with experimental preparation and delivery
- building and maintaining good relationships with stakeholders including engineers and suppliers
- troubleshooting laboratory equipment and services and contributing to continuous improvement processes
- ensuring the laboratory areas, and associated equipment, are organised and free from clutter and supplies / consumables are restocked either from the university central stores or ordered from external providers
- procurement of new equipment , ensuring all new equipment is fully commissioned, tested and working satisfactory, and arranging equipment servicing and maintenance
- promoting and maintaining safety in the lab, including correct waste management, fostering a team culture of accountability and high performance with all work being completed in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines provided by the Company
Requirements
- the quality and cohesiveness of a team is often the number one determinant of success for a small company
- A BSC/MSC degree with a minimum of 3 years experience in a microbiology laboratory setting
- familiar with working in biosafety level 2 category labs
- it is therefore absolutely essential to demonstrate respect for, and consideration of, others and their work
- hands-on experience using software that improves management of laboratories, electronic lab books or other lab database management systems
- ensuring good standards are maintained by conducting regular safety inspections, preparing written records regarding safety and environmental standards (e.g
- prior experience with the expression and purification of recombinant proteins from microbial culture would be advantageous
- accident reporting, lab audit) and ensuring appropriate corrective action for deviations or deficiencies are completed
