Purpose of the roleTo identify and follow the best practice within the kitchen. To ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, making sure it is maintained and safe. To ensure each individual child has their dietary needs met, helping to provide incredible service to each family, so that they get what they want, creating a friendly relationship with all parents. To ensure the food and drink offered to the children is of the highest standard, according to nursery policy and procedure.Key tasksPreparing meals and drink:1. To prepare and cook the meals and snack, serving them at the required time, following the recipes.2. To prepare food and drink according to individual requirements and preferences, following the nursery policies and procedures.3. To prepare baby food at the appropriate texture and following nursery procedures.4. Taking small groups of children to do activities with them. Teaching them the value of healthy menus and also teaching them about good personal hygiene and food preparation.Smooth Running of the Kitchen & Best Practice Food Preparation5. To know the nursery policies and procedures and work within them at all times and knowing the roles and responsibilities of the chef.6. To understand the nursery’s vision and business plan and understand how their role and actions make a difference.7. To ensure the food and drink is taken out into the rooms when meal times are finished.8. To ensure the dirty dishes, cutlery and crockery are collected and cleaned, throughout the day.9. To ensure water jugs and cups are provided and replaced as necessary throughout the day.10. To use designated areas to carry out designated tasks.11. To maintain effective stock rotation.12. We require a Nursery Cook to work in a small family run children’s day nursery in Newbiggin Hall The working hours are Monday – Friday 7.30am- 1.30pm. You must hold Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate and have experience within the catering field. The cook is responsible for the planning and preparation of foods and snacks, and you must be able to accommodate different allergies/cultures/ dietary requirements.You will be required to work within the standards set by Environment Health. You will also be responsible for keeping the kitchen/dining area and the equipment hygienically clean.Your role is to be able to complete all the necessary recording of documentation required by law.
