bricklayer
Responsibility
- read blueprints or specifications to determine the size, shape, and type of bricks or other materials required
- measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work
- mix specified amounts of sand, clay, dirt, or mortar powder with water to form refractory mixtures
- spread mortar on the foundation or base material using trowels and hand tools
- lay bricks in rows, designs, or shapes using mortar as a bonding agent
- remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools and finish mortar joints with jointing tools for a sealed appearance
- lay and bind building materials, such as brick, concrete block, and structural tile, to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures
- clean excess mortar from bricks or joints using sponges or trowels
Requirements
- proven experience as a brick mason or similar role
- proficient in working with various types of masonry materials including brick, concrete block, and structural tile
- familiarity with construction blueprints and specifications
- strong knowledge of masonry techniques and best practices
- ability to operate hand tools such as trowels and jointing tools effectively
- experience with power tools such as saws and drills is preferred but not required
- basic welding skills are a plus
