This review is for the GTJ Thetford location (you cannot leave a review with that location becuse it says permanently closed, they are not! I believe it’s becuse they are trying to avoid negative reviews). However GTJ company, no matter the location, is a shady business with shady business practices.
We purchased our car end of March 2024, by mid May, the car needed a new turbo. The third party warrantee refused to repair stating it was a pre existing condition prior to being sold (news to us!!). After much back and forth GTJ reluctantly agreed to fix it at their shop. We had to pay to have it towed to their location. That was a month ago… we still do not have our car. We frequently call, barely anyone answers. When they do, it’s always ‘we’ll look into that and call back’ (they never do), or ‘the part is on order, I’ll check with the supplier’…. Excuse after excuse; week after week. We have emailed the complaint “department” multiple times and have never received a reply. It is a shame it has come to this, leaving negative reviews to hopefully, finally be heard and either get our car fixed and back to us or receive a refund. But at this point, they have done nothing to remedy the situation and have basically stolen lots of money from us. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT do business with GTJ at any location. They will just waste your time, energy and most importantly, your money.
I purchased the vehicle on 17.05.2024, with the agreement that it would be delivered by the 27th of April. However, the car was delivered two weeks late, causing significant inconvenience.
In addition to the late delivery, I was assured that the car would come with a 12-month MOT. Upon receiving the vehicle, I discovered that the MOT is set to expire on the 31st of August, which is considerably less than the promised duration.
This misrepresentation is unacceptable and has caused further frustration.
Moreover, I was alarmed to find that the car is missing a rear-view mirror, which is a legal requirement for safe driving. This oversight not only poses a safety risk but also makes the vehicle non-compliant with road safety regulations. The engine check light is on, indicating a fault with the crankshaft sensor position.
Furthermore, after researching, I have found that other customers have reported similar negative experiences with your dealership. This pattern of issues is concerning and undermines my trust in your dealership. My decision to purchase from your dealership was significantly influenced by the recommendation of a known car broker whom I trusted to guide me to a reputable dealer.
I brought these issues to your attention in good faith, expecting them to be addressed promptly and professionally. However, I am deeply disappointed by the dismissive and accusatory response from dealership owner (deleted by the administrator). Instead of acknowledging the legitimate concerns raised about the vehicle, (deleted by the administrator)has falsely accused me of making threats and has completely ignored the substantive issues with the car.
One star is way too good for GTJ cars. This company currently have a Vauxhall Corsa for sale (advertised on their website), that they know is not road worthy nor fit for purpose.
GTJ sold this car to our son’s partner in September. She spent all her savings on this car and a useless warranty. The Corsa broke down in October.
Aforementioned warranty would not cover any of the diagnostics nor repairs. Our local garage found significant damage to the catalytic converter and other issues. After many ignored emails and phone messages, GTJ finally agreed to repair the car and collected it late in November.
Many delays later, the car was apparently ready to be collected from Thetford in January. Upon collection the battery was flat… it had not been replaced as per the diagnostics. We asked for the invoices for all the parts that had been scheduled to be replaced (in particular the totally melted catalytic converter) these invoices were never forthcoming. Much discussion and finally a second hand battery was put in the car and it was driven home. It broke down again a few days later.
GTJ said that they would recover the vehicle again (for inspection), but repeated emails to them proved fruitless. They basically ignored any correspondence directed to them and refused to acknowledge repeated pleas for a refund.
Late in February, a legal claim for compensation was made to the county court. GTJ had 14 days to respond before a county court judgement could be placed. They did not respond until day 13 and they then demanded that the claim be withdrawn. A few days of negotiations and finally GTJ agreed to repay in full. The claim was marked as settled and GTJ sent someone to collect the car. A few days later the car was for sale again on their website. This car has not been mended and until the refund payment is cleared and ownership transferred, GTJ do NOT own the car.
Throughout this whole sorry business, GTJ have been evasive and underhand. They are NOT the trustworthy family business that they claim to be. In fact they are lying crooks. The best advice would be:
DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM GTJ CARS!
Hi, what was the registration of this vehicle?
DN62BBV
If I could give this company zero stars, I would
I bought a Nissan Qashqai about 18 months ago from AJT Cars, Thetford, which appeared OK but had to have the a lot of work done on the front underside by my garage, saying it was dangerous and to not drive it. Total £500.
It unfortunately broke down again last week and my garage has just told me there is a problem with the injectors that will cost £500 to fault find as they would need to go away. They also told me that the rear is very badly rusted and that the whole car only has 2 years left before it is considered a right-off. They have recommended not spending any more money on it.
I have an outstanding loan on it for £6000 so this is obviously really bad news!!
It's also the family car and carries my children and family around, so being considered dangerous is sickening.
I will NEVER buy a used car from this place again and encourage you to AVOID like the PLAGUE, no matter how smiley the sales guy is...!

We had to make a legal claim to get anywhere with them. Even then they completely ignored all emails and legal notices until the night before the deadline for them to respond. Only when we had the power to invoke a County Court Judgement did they want to talk. It was hard work to negotiate a full refund, but eventually got there. Don’t give up!
Before you hand over the deposit you have a type of treatment after you give the deposit you've already been...
I bought a car at this stand I had a problem and it was under warranty and they kept stalling so that the warranty would expire, then they say I need a diagnosis and they say it's not correct so they kept the car for 3 weeks and they didn't fix it what my diagnosis detected. They found another part that wasn't even mentioned, but that was revealed in a diagnosis made by them...after 3 weeks I had a problem with the car again (the warranty with so much in the past was gone) and I'm still waiting for it today. It was a simple phone call just like Mathew said he would make me...
Don't buy cars here now I have a loan to pay for a car that only has problems...
Just avoid at all costs. These men are total cowboys.
Is GTJ CARS a trustworthy company?
Absolutely horrific experience with this company from start to finish, once they have your money they don't care about you or the car.
The car cost 5k and needed new track rod ends doing within the first 2 weeks, new injectors and i then found out at MOT that it had a badly corroded subframe and that it definitely would have been an advisory on the previous MOT unless somehow this was miraculously missed or the MOT wasnt infact the real deal! I also had confirmation that before I had the car it was in such bad condition it had to be shovelled out and valeted twice before it was fit for driving, so basically came from an auction for a couple of hundred quid in the worst condition ever!
I waited much longer than promised for the car to be ready even though they knew I was stuck with no other transport and couldn't get to work. They then told me they never had time to get it cleaned and that they would pay for a valet if I booked the car in which is what I did (another day off work waiting over 6 hours for this with a 30 minute travel to and from the place they use to valet vehicles). After cleaning, the valet people said GTJ were not paying for the service and that I had to cover the cost myself. After many calls to the company (stood at the valet place) they did finally pay for the valet but overall this was a completely stressful situation and I would urge anybody to approach with caution or better still, walk the other way!
Unfortunately less than 2 years after purchase this car is not fit for the road unless a lot more money is invested, at least another 3k.
But weren't you informed about the car's state? No matter how much you pay for the car, 2 years on the road is just a joke. Even though they covered the service. Maybe something changed there from that time. Hopefully.
How can you hold a dealer responsible for a car after 2 years. I have been selling cars all my adult life and this really did make me think what peoples expectations really are and this is laughable.
The company called GTJ CARS from Thetford,a manager called (deleted by the administrator) ,he sold me a car and lied to me about the car warranty. He told me that the car is fully warranty and after the respective warranty, they told me that my car is not fully warranty.Be careful with them because they lie people a lot and don't read their warranty policy before people pay. They are (deleted by the administrator) who deserve to be sued.
I hope GTJ CARS takes these issues seriously to avoid such misunderstandings in the future. What was the company's response to the situation?
Very poor after sales. No communication. They do not keep to the deal and are not to be trusted especially (deleted by the administrator). I would steer we’ll clear.
Why do you say that one shouldn't trust them? Did they trick you somehow? I think that more detailed information would be useful not only for me, but also all the users and future 'victims'
As part of the deal they agreed to fit a new cambelt. I asked at the time that they provide me with the invoice from the mechanic so I have proof that it was done ( in case I need to sell the car). After several weeks and many phone calls and emails no invoice. If the cambelt was changed this would not be difficult. So I now suspect they didn’t do it. If only they would communicate we could sort it out. They obviously have something to hide.
Thanks for the information, it's good that you wanted the invoice, maybe it's also a lesson for them for the future, but in my opinion you should ask for all the documents before the purchase, because after that, they are no longer interested in anything. Unless that's what you did
The job offer is for a Sales Advisor position at GTJ CARS. They emphasize that they are a growing and changing company with opportunities for career progression. The job responsibilities include selling products, making recommendations to customers, and effectively communicating with employees. It's mentioned that customer service skills are important and the ability to listen to and interpret customer needs accurately.
Considering the salary range of £23,000-£35,000 per year, it would be valuable to understand more about the criteria for determining the pay scale. Could you provide more information about what factors contribute to the salary range and how performance is evaluated? Additionally, the job offer mentions a flexitime schedule. Could someone clarify what this entails and how it accommodates work-life balance?
I worked for the company about 6 months.
There is a very loose commission structure but on average you will earn shy of 2k after tax.
The work/life balance is terrible for the money you earn and the two owners spend more time playing golf than they do running their business
Why do you mention work/life balance? Do they make you work additional hours? That's something I can't accept in my job because of family duties..
Worse company ever got car was in garage for 4 weeks in total still didn't have a clue what problem was went some where else they sorted it the same day would never recommend these to anyone
So your car was there for a month and they weren't able to do ANYTHING? Do you think their staff is so unexperienced or they didn;t even took a look on your car?
Maybe you didn't know, but there is KNIGHTSBRIDGE COMMERCIAL CLEANING SERVICES near GTJ CARS. Who organizes more training for employees? Development is really important
What are the salaries without much experience in GTJ CARS?
What is GTJ CARS in Downham Market like? Do you work there?
