Responsibility

  • due GL Education's continuing success we are creating a brand new platform enablement team
  • the team's remit is to provide technical and architectural leadership to GL Education, and support delivery streams with their goals
  • this team will sit outside of the current product engineering teams and will be led by the Head of Technology reporting into the CTO
  • this team will be made up exclusively of full stack engineers who have experienced the ups and downs of the full software development lifecycle multiple times, have learned from past mistakes, studious to their craft and pragmatic in their approach

Requirements

  • innate desire to improve systems, identify issues regardless of complexity or scope and resolve them autonomously
  • studious, exemplifies continuous learning from blogs, books, learning portals and meetups
  • truly full stack, from UI, Backend, DB, CI/CD to cloud infrastructure and IaC
  • excellent software engineering and problem solving skills, taking complete ownership of tasks all the way to production across multiple disciplines and removing blockers where necessary
  • experience of hypothesis driven development, A/B testing, deployment strategies such as blue/green and canary
  • engineering maturity, breaking down large tasks into smaller manageable staged releases using feature flags, versioning to ensure platform stability and quality throughout
  • fundamental commercial understanding that the products and our customers are paramount. Our role is to provide a quality experience to our customers, both external and internal
  • pragmatic in approach, understanding that software and it's architecture are fundamentally about trade-offs. What works today may not work tomorrow, evolutionary architecture is the goal
