Responsibility

• to carry out tasks such as daily newspaper collection, cleaning of shoes and shopping as required
• to dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required

• this is not an exhaustive list of duties and post holder will be required to undertake other reasonable duties from time to time
• to prepare the House on a daily basis which includes turning off the intruder alarm, opening curtains and shutters and checking the condition, tidiness of rooms, hallways and stairs and preparing fires in winter months
• to close the House at the end of each day, ensuring curtains drawn/windows, shutters and doors are secured and setting the intruder alarm
• to clean the family car , conduct routine checks inc tyre pressures, oil / water levels and ensure they are MOT’d, insured, serviced and taxed
• to provide support for the Head Housekeeper as required, working in the kitchen/ pantry and also providing ‘front of house’ service for family and guests
• to monitor stock levels of consumable items such as fuel, grit, light bulbs, fire logs etc and arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures
• to maintain the wine cellar including stock management and rotation
• to carry out other reasonable tasks at the request of the Head Housekeeper and the family, that ensures the smooth management and running of the household

• full and clean UK driving licence essential

• excellent customer service skills; presentable and tidy appearance at all times
• emergency First Aid at Work Training – not essential to start but would need a willingness to complete asap
• to always display discretion, and a respectful attitude towards other staff, the family and their property
• to have a positive and caring disposition
• the occupation of the Property shall be as a licensee under a service occupancy agreement
• ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative and willing to be happy to roll up your sleeves and work with the team
• to have an understanding that confidentiality is paramount and be reliable and trustworthy
• applicants must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Basic Disclosure check before or during their employment
• cleaning: 1 year
• commercial cleaning: 1 year
• it is essential for the proper performance of the duties that Security/ Caretaker shall be required to live in the staff flat or such other unfurnished property that the Employer allocates during the employment
• janitorial: 1 year

Earnings for position caretaker

Responsibility

• there is a kitchen garden, formal ornamental gardens and a woodland, a stream area and a wild flower meadow
• the post-holder will report to the Head Gardener and support her and the team in developing and maintaining the gardens
• this will entail weeding flower beds, pruning of shrubs, edging of beds as weekly tasks

• annual tasks such as planting of bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs and their subsequent care
• seasonal tasks will include leaf collecting and some hedge cutting
• the estate is a 25 minute walk away from Theale Train Station or you can get off the bus at a bus stop in Deadman’s Lane which is almost opposite the Lodge gates leading into the estate. If you drive a car there is parking on site provided
• the post holder will need to work autonomously as well as part of a team
• we manage 9 acres of gardens surrounding the main house and are responsible for maintaining other areas on the estate such as the Long drive and the village hall
• the post holder will be confident in the use of hedge trimmers, strimmers and pedestrian mowers
• A PA1 and PA6 certificate would be an advantage but not essential
• the work is physically demanding and a high standard of workmanship is required
• hours are 7.30a.m. to 4.30p.m. Monday to Friday
• 25 days holiday a year and Statutory Bank Holidays
