Requirements
- higher National Certificate or Diploma and 7-10 years relevant work experience
- technical experience operating and troubleshooting process and analytical equipment, including at high temperatures and pressures
- an aptitude for learning, to understand and master new equipment from first principles
- experience designing and modifying experimental installations safely and effectively
- experience of performing various analytical techniques
- knowledge of COSHH regulations, risk assessments, and a proactive safety mindset
- knowledge of relevant equipment suppliers and their material and service offerings
- excellent communication and networking skills to engage with team members, suppliers, service providers and university staff
Responsibility
- contribute practical and innovative solutions to resolve operational issues
- this may include the set up and operation of glassware, and equipment under vacuum and inert atmospheres or other specialised environments
- management and upkeep of specific laboratory assets and the coordination of operational needs such as consumables, spares, etc
- rigorous approach to ensuring safe operations and performing of required safety duties
- independent setup, configuration, safe operation and troubleshooting of process installations and associated utilities, for reliable and accurate generation and primary work-up of experimental data
- set up and operation of synthesis, activation and testing equipment in order to prepare reproducible batches of material according to research requirements
- calibration and setup of analytical equipment, preparation of samples, performing of analyses, expert fault-finding and the generation and work-up of data to provide quality results within an agreed timeframe
