Requirements
- proven underwriting experience within the secured lending or residential or commercial mortgage market
- understanding of the regulatory environment and in particular focussed on Customer Outcomes
- experience of dealing with brokers and third parties
- excellent communication skills
- attention to detail
- ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
- strong planning and problem solving skills
Responsibility
- to demonstrate sound decision making and document the rationale for acceptance
- reporting to the Underwriting Team Leader
- assess the mortgage application and supporting documents in line with the company’s Lending Policy
- review and approve the applicants overall affordability results
- instruct property valuers to undertake property valuation. Once received, review valuation and assess the key variables including comparables provided
- to process and case manage new mortgage applications , received from selected intermediaries in accordance with the company’s Lending Policy and service standards
- ensuring that all applications and/or associated documents received into the department are processed, accurately and in a timely manner meeting the department service levels
- recommends loans to the Underwriting Manager where they fall outside of the lending mandate held. Providing an appropriate rationale
