Education

  • GCSE or equivalent
  • 3rd level recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Youth and Community work or Counselling OR at least two years relevant experience in a similar role
  • JOB TITLE: Young People’s Support Worker
  • RESPONSIBLE TO: Project Co-ordinator
  • HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week which will include evening and weekend work

Requirements

  • at least two years experience of working directly with young people
  • proven experience and knowledge of designing and delivering creative, needs led programmes and in evaluating these programmes effectively
  • experience of recruitment and engagement of young people onto programmes
  • formal communication skills for presentations, report writing and funding applications
  • proven ability to forward plan, prioritise and manage time/workload
  • designing and delivering programmes for young people: 2 years
  • working directly with young people: 2 years

Responsibility

  • to co-ordinate and oversee the duties of volunteer Peer Educators
  • the Young People’s Support Worker will work alongside the Project Co-ordinator, Youth Support Worker and volunteer Peer Educators to design, deliver and evaluate a variety of programmes and services for young people
  • to manage elements of the programme budget for programme delivery
  • to design and deliver a range of evidenced based youth work programmes both on a one-to-one basis and in groups
  • to ensure young people can influence the planning, delivery and evaluation of all services
  • to listen, advise, support and act as an advocate for young people
  • to work directly with young people to assess their needs and design/deliver programmes which provide opportunities for young people to raise their aspirations, confidence, self-esteem and their ability to learn and grow
  • to ensure that services/programmes are compliant with good practice guidelines and appropriate safeguards are in place at all times
