Responsibility

  • to ensure compliance with the Children Act 2000 and associated regulations, including where appropriate the Children's Homes Regulations
  • to participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual care plans
  • to support and direct provision of high-quality care which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of young people as determined by legislation, guidance and social services policies through communication, observation and recording
  • to ensure that specific needs are met where appropriate such as dietary advice, religious observance and culturally significant activities
  • to be responsible as a member of the staff team to formulate care plans with young people, construct packages of care to meet their needs and for the direct day to day support and housing management tasks such as health and safety and maintenance issues for young people living at the centre and support to move on to independent living
  • to ensure that young people carry as much responsibility for their own lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry, keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving them in planning their lives, supporting them and helping them towards taking greater control and responsibility
  • undertake recording and report writing as requested by senior staff
  • undertake other procedural and administrative tasks as requested by senior staff

Requirements

  • knowledge of the social work process for young people
  • knowledge of current issues in residential childcare
  • children Act 1989 plus other relevant legislation
  • 16+ Semi-Independendent/Key worker: 3 years
  • knowledge of child development and adolescent behaviour including methods of working with challenging behaviour. i.e. observation and recording
  • qualifications & Experience
  • an appropriate qualification
  • experience of working with young people with challenging behaviour, a high risk of child sexual and criminal exploitation / complex caseloads
