Responsibility
- liaise with loss adjusters, assessors, and clients to confirm the nature and extent of the works
- provide initial advice to secure instructions
- advising clients about building/property issues, which can include technical, commercial, statutory, environmental/sustainability, building regulation and restoration matters

- monitoring the deterioration or defects of a property and offering advice on repair work
- inspect property and draft schedules of works, specifications, and reports
- assessing the impact of unexpected damage on insurance, for example after a fire or flood
- agree specification and schedule of works with the loss adjuster and client
- writing technical reports
- site surveys in relation to condition and building surveying
- tender work and produce a detailed tender report
- negotiating the repair of work or a financial settlement if required
- manage and prepare specification drawings and carry out risk assessments for improvement
- advising on all aspects of quality and construction on new and existing buildings
- contract administration
- refurbishments and new building schemes
- report weekly/monthly progress to all involved parties
- undertaking measured surveys and dilapidations
- providing technical and professional guidance to clients, colleagues and stakeholders
- build relationships with loss adjusters and assessors
- carry out feasibility studies
- determine the condition of existing buildings, identify, and analyse defects, including proposals for repair
- advise on the health and safety aspects of buildings
- experience Identifying successful New Business opportunities
- ensure information is released to the contractor to enable satisfactory progress
- take full responsibility for work
Requirements
- essential Skills & Abilities
- RICS Registered Building Surveyor
- full UK Driving License and ability to travel frequently within the UK when required

- ensure project delivery meets programme requirements
- experience in working on refurbishment projects in excess of £1m
- non-Chartered Surveyors with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insurance market will also be considered
- degree in Building Surveying
- confident and concise communicator both verbally and in writing
- ensure contractor maintains quality
- excellent and accurate report writing skills
- business focused and willing to be involved in business development and building client relationships
- RICS qualified or ambition to achieve this
- self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure
- compile specifications and schedules of works for inclusion within tender documentation
- evidence of continued professional development
- strong technically
- experience of working in a pro-active commercial environment
- thorough understanding of the needs and demands of clients
- maintain budget controls
- previous experience of undertaking measured surveys and dilapidations
- A logical and practical mind
- sound knowledge of building contracts in a commercial context
- able to meet fee targets and generate new business through building successful client relationships
- strong oral and written communication skills
- commercially astute
- proven ability to build lasting professional relationships with clients and colleagues
- degree in construction related field
