Responsibility

  • campaign-based and routine fieldwork assistance, including boat-based long-term ecosystem monitoring in the English Lake District
  • work with species experts to adapt and extend this existing process-based model framework, initially building new adaptations for moths and bats
  • contributing to the delivery of national countryside monitoring across Northern Ireland
  • collecting, identifying and counting of biological samples from lakes and rivers
  • conducting and developing ecosystem surveys for long-term monitoring, including habitats, vegetation, and plant health
  • laboratory analysis of water samples to determine their chemical and biological properties
  • compare the models’ predictions to real-life species observations to test how well they reproduce observed species’ behaviour
  • collection and delivery of digital field data in accordance with established field protocols

Requirements

  • previous fieldwork experience
  • experience in the survey, identification and counting of other freshwater plants and animals, especially zooplankton and aquatic plants
  • understanding of the linkage between effects and atmospheric composition monitoring and requirements for ecosystem modelling
  • are based in Wales
  • A full, valid driving licence
  • experience of GIS software and willingness to learn
  • experience of managing and archiving biological data and/or photographic images
  • ecosystem monitoring
