technical manager
Responsibility
- to liaise in advance with visiting companies in order to agree their requirements
- to advise the Director if specialist skills are required for particular events, and suggest sources of expertise
- to act as main safety officer and organise the servicing and maintenance of the building needs
Show more +10 - to manage the theatre’s regular maintenance programme for stage and other mechanical, electrical or digital equipment, utilities and services
- to manage any casual technical staff and support their training and development where appropriate
- to work with visiting companies for pre-rigs, get-ins, focusing and plotting, rehearsals and sound checks, and to run and get out shows – all in accordance with good working practice
- to source special equipment not held in theatre stock as required by visiting companies, recording its use and notifying the Director of costs involved
- to act as Production Manager for any events arranged by local organisations working with the Eastgate Theatre, managing any technical equipment, electrical props, pyrotechnics etc
- to carry out any other appropriate duties as determined by the Director
- to attend regular weekly staff meetings
- to advise on relevant technical or building expenditure, and manage consequent costs within agreed budgets
- to carry out risk assessments if required by the Director, and take steps to ensure that all statutory regulations in relation to the safe operation of the theatre’s ancillary areas are adhered to by all members of staff, volunteers, and visitors
- to take part in regular fire drills and evacuation practices
Requirements
- at least three years’ experience of working in a technical environment, preferably an arts venue
- experience of problem solving within a live events environment
- experience of operating theatre lighting, including rigging and focusing, and use of lighting effects and lighting desks

- experience of setting up microphones, monitors and speakers, balancing live and recorded sound and operating sound desk
- understanding of cinema projection and sound equipment
- good level of ICT skills
- experience of budget management
- knowledge of AV set up and operation
- good time management skills
- knowledge of health and safety and fire regulations within a live events environment
- IOSH qualification or similar
- ability to organise servicing and maintenance of building
- good team working and leadership skills
- A professional approach, and the ability to remain calm in all circumstances
- ability to prioritise effectively
