perform routine investigations and participate in daily scientific and technical activities of the laboratory section
participate in the receipt, recording, storage, allocation, and disposal of specimens – also identifying and resolving issues effectively
participate in the input, retrieval, and analysis of data, seeking advice from a senior colleague where appropriate
participate in the day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and working areas
prepare reagents and other materials for routine laboratory use following appropriate SOP’s
perform general laboratory duties as assigned by the lab manager – e.g., Temperature checks
to work in accordance with SOPs at all times
utilise the laboratory LIMS and other application software to authorised protocols

Requirements
phlebotomy: 1 year
Responsibility
participate in the reception, preparation, and documentation of specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and protocols
prepare staining solutions and reagents and to assist in the maintenance of adequate stocks of reagents and consumables
participate in risk management of the department including error reporting and corrective actions Staff Supervision and Training
report all incidents and adverse events to managers and assist in the investigations of any incidents
be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the equipment with which she/he is working
communicate with pathologists, laboratory, and admin staff from VPG histology and other organisations regarding samples required, appropriateness of tests, provision of results etc
participate in specimen processing and the production of histology sections for microscopic examination. This includes grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining and microscopy
undertake any other reasonable duty, when requested to do so by an appropriate manager
