- strong familiarity with Local Planning Authorities and their environmental consenting requirements, preferably in relation to BNG
- utilise your existing networks and relationship-building skills to position Environment Bank as the go-to solution for unlocking offsite BNG needs for clients

- as a Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and thought leadership in the field of ecology
- as a Senior Ecologist, you will lead on securing, creating and monitoring EBs network of sites across England with a particular focus in your defined geographical region
- you will lead complex ecological projects, mentor ecologists within the Ecology team, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to the development of innovative conservation and sustainability solutions
- this will involve a wide range of responsibilities supported by EBs team of ecologists, land managers and the wider project delivery team

- lead and manage large-scale ecological projects, including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and monitoring of progress to achieve project objectives
- negotiate Heads of Terms and sales contracts in line with our approved templates

- the ideal candidate will have a strong track record of ecological research, exceptional leadership abilities, and a deep commitment to environmental stewardship
- as a Principal or Senior Ecologist and BNG Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in driving the expansion of investment into nature through the establishment of habitat banks with landowners
- experience as an expert witness or in public inquiry proceedings
- undertaking Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and calculations utilising the Biodiversity Metric
- contribute to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in meetings and presentations
- contribute to achieving a BNG Unit delivery target of £11.5 million for 2023
- mentor and provide technical guidance to junior ecologists, overseeing their work and fostering their professional development
- excellent management and organisational skills
- to act as an H&S ambassador, encouraging colleagues to adhere to the EB H&S policy and requirements
Requirements
- masters in ecology, environmental science, biology, or a related field, with a strong focus on ecological research. Post-doctoral experience is preferred
- CIEEM Full Membership
- lead and manage Habitat Bank projects from initiation to creation and beyond, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and objectives

- an extensive track record of professional experience in ecological research and project management
- analyse ecological data, interpret findings, and prepare Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and calculations utilising the Biodiversity Metric 4.0
- expert knowledge of ecological principles, conservation biology, ecosystem dynamics, and environmental management practices
- extensive experience in designing and implementing ecological research studies, including experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
- liaison and relationship building with landowners and other stake holders throughout the Habitat Bank process
- proficiency in utilising advanced ecological modelling and GIS tools to assess and predict ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity patterns
- valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required across the UK
- strong understanding of environmental regulations, policies, and permitting processes, with experience in navigating regulatory frameworks and ensuring compliance
- report writing including Biodiversity Appraisals, in-house research projects and literature reviews of documentation and external guidance
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ecological concepts to diverse audiences
