  • perform physical examinations of patients to assist in the assessment of the health status of the individual
  • observe signs and symptoms associated with changes in the physical and emotional health of the patient
  • discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and make referrals to the appropriate services
  • order routine laboratory tests such as blood chemistry, x-ray and urinalysis
  • prescribe appropriately, referring to Department of Health Guidelines for Nurse Prescribers Extended Formulary
  • review cases with GP, to discuss findings and to devise plans of patient care which covers medical and nursing aspects
  • to work alongside the GPs to deal with a mix of face to face and telephone triage of same day acute problems. Please see separate attached document for full job description
  • obtain detailed medical histories of patients to systematically collect data on patient background, physical and mental condition, medications and treatments and other pertinent information
