Responsibility
- body part design and development for all vehicle projects, covering new model and current mass production
- to collaborate with design and construction task teams to ensure Projects Specifications are appropriate for the planned works activity

- to defining the governance and processes for successful specification writing and development
- to study design shape based on basic material/structure engineering and customer's requirement
- review and approve part drawings submitted by suppliers
- to maintain specifications by keeping clauses up to date with legislation, British Standards, EN codes and other related standards
- manage in-house and supplier validation of the parts
- resolve technical issues with in-house test departments and suppliers
- to ensure that specifications are coded with clear conventions - such as CAWS and Uniclass
- conduct vehicle life cycle cost reduction idea generation and implementation
- the successful Cost Engineer will have experience of working within R&D and manufacturing in a commercial, cost analyst role, ideally in the automotive sector
- lead design reviews to ensure the parts under development are delivered in line with program requirements for cost, quality and timing
- lead vehicle life cycle warranty investigations and countermeasure implementations
- prepare and present development status and strategy plans to Senior Management
- to support review and approval of specifications to confirm the specification meets requirements
- to promote the use of the preferred specification management technology platform and ensure engagement with IT and the vender periodically for updates
- to have a discussion with related departments and to find technical solution
- to ensure that sensitive asset specifications are controlled and separated where necessary and working with the MIP Built Asset Security Manager to ensure security classification markings are appropriate
- to ensure the connection of specifications with Building Information Models developed by the project team and making sure geometric assets are coded inline with the Project / Master Specifications
- ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget
- to work with the BIM team to develop BIM families tags that can read from the Project Specification headers, and provide reliable links
- prepare drawing, have a review with line managers
- supporting and managing the cost activities for new and existing business opportunities
- ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied
- to assist in driving the production of appropriate data to ensure that all enquiries are managed efficiently and within agreed timescales
- support in VE/VA activities
- cost and budget management for current and new models, with ability to benchmark and compare those models to investigate cost reduction opportunities
Requirements
- be degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
- 3 years relevant experience in automotive industry
- design knowledge and Mechanical background is advantageous

- excellent problem-solving skills with knowledge of Design Review, FTA and FMEA methods
- mechanical Engineering Degree or similar with equivalent industry experience also considered
- understanding of the regulations around Nuclear Licenced Sites
- design and Construction experience background i.e., civil, structural, architectural and MEP or similar
- ideally Prior knowledge of manufacturing processes
- either already UK Security cleared or able for achieve UK SC clearance
- knowledge of CAN, CAN tools and vehicle diagnostics
- organised and self-motivated to learn and constantly improve
- automotive industry experience and knowledge
- an understanding of LIN or CAN communication and tools
- knowledge of M&E building services design and installation
- minimum 10 Years Design & Construction Experience
- shall have knowledge of ISO 19650 standards
- experience in line with "Scope of Work" description
- ability to travel within the UK and internationally to suppliers, plants, other global R&D centres etc. on an infrequent basis
- proven knowledge of automotive design and process experience
- ability to organize and be confident managing projects within set deadlines
- knowledge of Civil/Structural construction techniques employed for Nuclear Safety related facilities
- shall have a minimum of 10 years design and construction experience
- experience of specification writing tools including the use of NBS Chorus and linking with BIM
- bachelor's degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- updating and authoring of technical documentation in support of the nuclear safety case
- able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the process of BIM throughout the design and construction lifecycle
- experience with the following platforms; Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Civils3D
- more than five years in automotive experience, ideally with OEM or Tier 1 supplier and has covered at least one project from conception to completion on design side
- competent with PC applications such as MS Office
- understanding of the PRS process
- have relevant experience in automotive electrical and electronic development relating to vehicle body electronics, HMI, navigation and telematics systems or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience on a major development program, e.g
- awareness of COBIe and IFC
- valid driving license
- able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle
- A Degree in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline , for example Civil, Structural, Architecture, MEP
- sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements
- hold qualifications in a relevant discipline below, minimum HNC, degree or diploma. You shall hold professional chartership with a recognised industry institute
- chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council
- sound project specification & planning experience
- knowledge of classification schemas such as: CAWS, Uniclass
- working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications
- experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities
