SENSORY SPECIALISTS is looking for employees for positions:

Responsibility

  • provide BSL interpretation services in a range of settings, including educational, healthcare, social services, and community events
  • ensure confidentiality and impartiality while interpreting information
  • prepare for interpreting assignments by researching relevant terminology and familiarising oneself with the subject matter
  • adapt communication style and use appropriate BSL variations to accommodate the needs of diverse individuals and situations
  • supporting people with sensory loss or deaf to realise their full potential and can contribute to their community
  • collaborate with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and understanding
  • maintain professionalism and adhere to the BSL/English Interpreter’s Code of Conduct and relevant ethical guidelines
  • assist with administrative tasks related to contacting and arranging appointments with clients, support with assessments and case notes

Requirements

  • proficiency in British Sign Language at a minimum of Level 3 qualification or equivalent / CODA
  • excellent communication skills in both BSL and English, with the ability to accurately convey spoken language into BSL and vice versa
  • previous experience working as a BSL Communication Support or BSL Interpreter is preferred but not essential
  • strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality in all interpreting assignments
  • flexibility to work variable hours, based on the needs of clients and assignments
  • knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Equality Act 2010, and familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines is advantageous
  • london: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work
